    Morakot

    Taiwan Typhoon Morakot
    http://www.etaiwannews.com/etn/news_content.php?id=1033758&lang=eng_news

    Pictures from BGJD website!

Typhoon Morakot dumped nearly 3,000 mm of rain -- half a year's or two-thirds of a year's rainfall in many places in Taiwan -- in just four days from midnight Aug. 6 to 4 a.m. on Aug. 10. in certain parts of Taiwan, swelling rivers that washed away bridges and triggering landslides that buried entire villages.

The storm killed at least 126 people across Taiwan and left 45 injured and 60 others unaccounted for as of 5 p.m. Monday.
But the figure on the number of people killed does not include the nearly 400 people believed to have been buried in Siaolin Village, Kaohsiung County by a mudslide and those buried in other villages whose bodies have not yet been uncovered.

The official number of missing also does not include around 100 people from Siaolin who still could not be contacted, including children who study in the cities.
President Ma Ying-jeou has said the total death toll could be more than 500.
